PLR - What Can I Do With Private Label Rights Products?

So, you've decided to get your list building efforts off the ground by using some PLR content. If so, then this is probably a really good time to look at the legal aspects of using Private Label Rights products. There's a lot of variations, way too many to discuss them all but I'll try to touch on the main categories and give you some ideas of what you should be looking for and looking out for!

When you purchase PLR it's important that you understand the limitations or lack of limitations that the original author has placed on the product. It would be a waste of your time and money to buy a product with a purpose in mind only to find out later that you don't have the legal rights to use it the way you had intended.

Resell Rights:

Most products that you purchase that come with "Resell Rights" allow you to sell the product at a suggested resale price. The product normally has digital resell rights and is usually royalty free so any profits that you make are yours for the taking. The better resale rights products come complete with sales pages that are ready to use, images of the product, and many even come with pre-written thank you pages. Some resale rights products will allow you to give the product to a customer that has paid for another product but many times the license will specifically mention that "bundling" is not allowable. Each author sets their own terms and conditions and it's important for you to read and understand what's allowed and what's not.

Master Resell Rights:

Most products that come with Master Resell Rights allow you to resell the product it, bundle it, include it in membership sites and even sell the resell rights to others. Do read the terms - every author is different and the terms may vary from product to product. And do realize that some products come with transferable master resell rights and some come with non transferable master resell rights. Non transferable master resell rights mean just that, you may not sell or give the resell rights to anyone, only you have that option. Master resell rights products are usually priced higher than resell rights products because the buyer can do more with the product, therefore it's more valuable.

Personal Use:

This product is pretty easy for anyone to understand - it's for your personal use only. You may not give it away, bundle it, resell it, change it or anything other than use it for your own information.

Private Label Resell Rights:

Private Label Resell Rights are perhaps the best product to own. You can change the material as you see fit, edit it, change the graphics, claim authorship, change the sales page, turn it into an email course, etc. Most PLR products come with the source files (such as a Word document) that enable you to make edits easily. Many of them even come with the Photoshop.psd files that will allow you to make changes to the graphics. Again, you must pay close attention to the terms of the product as every author can change the terms as they see fit. As a general rule, PLR products are the most expensive for of rights to buy because you can do the most with it. PLR can enable you to make an excellent product in a very short amount of time.

Summary:

PLR products are a great way to make a product fast and they're especially helpful in coming up with a freebie to give to prospects to join your list. The main thing to remember about using PLR is to read the licensing terms and abide by them. Always strive to make the product better than what it started out as and you will do well.
